Just change the disposable litter cartridge every 20 to 30 days (10 to 15 days for two cats) and toss the old cartridge away without seeing, touching, or smelling messy waste. True, the unit and the cartridges are somewhat pricey, but it does the job. I have three cats and have had some trouble with one of the cats not wanting to use it at all. Also, I did have my entire unit fail but the company was prompt in replacing it via snail mail after I call the 1-800 number. Be careful cleaning the unit and don't get water inside the electronic components because its NOT sealed. Expensive litter, 2008-05-14 I have three cats. Persian, Himalayan, and domestic short hair. I was going through three cartilages a month. I discovered that I could buy the same crystals at Target for $11 8lb bag. I use the same box for a month and just change the crystals every 10 days.
